I was excited to see that the free ARe book for the day was Rhys Ford's Dirty Kiss. The books in the Cole McGinnis series are a little violent for my tastes, but my violence threshhold is very low. There's a lot with people getting shot. But they're well-written and very interesting. I posted about it on the Backlot Gay Books forum and in a Tumblr post.
I'll probably go out shopping today.
A few hours later: Mom and I went to the grocery store. It was a successful trip for me. They were out of cinnamon chip muffins, so it wasn't an entirely successful trip for Mom. She got wild berry instead.
I looked around outside. The winter honeysuckle is in full bloom, and attracting bumblebees. The Tradescantia 'Miss Kate' got eaten. When I went into the back yard, a rabbit ran farther back into the yard. Our trees are full of birds and squirrels. There are groundhogs living under the shed, and a skunk that lives somewhere around the yard. Deer come to the yard pretty regularly, from the looks of the damage they do to garden plants. So we have quite the abundance of wildlife. I think the brush and brushpiles encourage them, and there's so much for them to feed on. We have a ton of pollinators. We have lots of kinds of flowers, and some of the plants have berries, too. I took pictures of the magnolia tree, which is in full bloom. I took pictures of the different kinds of daffodils, too. Sprouts of the white lily-of-the-valley are coming up.
I gave Dirty Kiss to several people as a gift. I like that feature of ARe, that you can give books as gifts.
Later: I texted with a couple of people, but didn't want to blow through all my text messages early in the cycle. I haven't really talked to any real people beside my parents. Well, J.-PA counts, but only a few texts is not a full conversation.
Later still: It's been crickets chirping to my posts about books. I texted J. He was watching a NY Rangers/Penguins game, so I didn't call. He said the Rangers had just scored. When we happened to get Flyers tickets and went to a Flyers/Islanders game, I asked him which team he was rooting for. He said, "I wish they could both lose."
Later than that: I chatted with J.-PA for a while.
I finished up an editing job.
Perhaps I'll get messages tomorrow from people who got free copies of Dirty Kiss.
