I may try to go to the Y today. It's supposed to snow tomorrow. I am not feeling highly motivated yet today, but I don't want to be stuck in the house for two days, so I'd better get out and about today. If I go, I'll read more of Starling. I looked on Goodreads. It drew mixed opinions. Mostly people either gave it four or five stars, or they gave it two stars.
A one-star review said it was based on RPF about Glee actors (CC and DC), written by the authors under the name ChillAfterDark. I looked for ChillAfterDark on AO3. There was fic under that name. It was all Chill fic. I didn't read it, since I don't read RPF. But it didn't pair the actors in the tags. I wouldn't be surprised if those authors wrote RPF. I don't know if it's really them. But the reviewer was inaccurate about the pairing. The books have original characters. As long as I don't have to read the RPF, no matter who it was written by, it doesn't bother me to read about characters.
I'm mad at myself because I got the books a couple of days before Torquere had a 40% off sale on St. Patrick's Day. I didn't know about the sale. Nothing I can do about it now. I thought Torquere was an interesting choice of publisher. Now that I've read some of Starling, I do think Torquere was a good fit for it, that it is a Torquere kind of book. Considering I've read probably hundreds of things published by them, from short stories to novels, I think I have a decent understanding about the kind of books they publish.
I chatted with Riah. We talked about various things. I told her about that review. She was surprised about it.
A couple of hours later: I went out to the Y and walked on the treadmill for a bit. At least I got out of the house and got a little exercise. I read a little more of Starling while I was walking. It was distracting that I'd read a book character's name and picture an actor, but I got through that. I had thought aspects of the book were reminiscent of Racheline Maltese's opinions on the actors' personae and on Glee, since I've read quite a number of "big life, small space" posts, too.
When I got home, I picked some snowdrops, since I wanted to enjoy some inside when I couldn't go outside. I posted pictures of anthuriums and orchids on Tumblr.
Later: I took Mom to the hospital because she'd been having chest pains on and off for three days. Dad and I were concerned. After some testing, the doctor seemed to conclude that it was most likely bad reflux. The EKG was good and the chest X-ray and labs were good. They gave Mom a "GI mix" of Maalox and Donnagel(?) (Donna-something). She made quite a face when she drank it. We got there at 7-something and left at 11:15 or so.
