Mom had gotten up pretty early. J. and K. had a lot of dirty dishes piled up, and Mom can't stand seeing dirty dishes, so she washed a bunch. She kept up with it, and I joined in on dish-drying duty, and we got a lot done. K. wept. I told her I knew what it was like to look at a mess and feel overwhelmed, to not know where to start, and that we wanted to help out. She went back upstairs for a bit. I said to Mom, "I think that when their dishes get dirty, they just get new ones," not knowing that K. had returned to the kitchen area and was right behind me. "Sorry," I said. "I didn't know you were there." Apparently there was at least a grain of truth to what I said, though. K. said that now it was better, she'd keep up with it.
We had many adventures once we got out of the house. We went to a T-Mobile store to talk to someone who had really helped K. get a good plan for herself. We discovered that Mom's phone had been off contract for years, so she can do what she wants with it. I'm the one who's still under contract. There were some plans that sounded good, but I'd need to work it out.
We had taken my car, and the "service engine" light went on. J. said that was often a sign that the oil was low, so we got a couple of quarts of oil. We made several other stops.
We got to the pool around 3:00 p.m., but it was cold.
K. checked the oil, and it was low. She put in the two quarts, and then it was up to full.
Mom and I started home around 6:30 p.m. We took the scenic route much of the way. We stopped at a grocery store, but got home by 9:00 p.m.
Someone asked me about being the beta for a Blaine Big Bang fic. It's an historical AU set during World War II. I had a history of World War II class back in the day, and a twentieth century international relations class. It was still the twentieth century when I had those classes. We have a ton of World War II history books around, and Dad is a fount of knowledge on twentieth century military history. The local library is pretty well stocked on World War II history books, too.
