The librarian who picked books for sexuality studies at a university where I worked picked some good ones. She got Transgender Warriors and Transgender Liberation: Beyond Pink and Blue by Leslie Feinberg, and I read both of those. The library also had Body Alchemy by Loren Cameron, which is a very good book.
I'm fairly sure that along the line I read The Testosterone Files: My Hormonal and Social Transformation from Female to Male by Max Wolf Valerio. I don't know if I read it, but I'd certainly heard about FTM: Female-to-Male Transsexuals in Society by Holly Devor, who is now Aaron Devor.
Going more into genderqueer and intersex writings and activism, I'd also read a few things by Raven Kaldera along the way, and heard of Kate Bornstein, Matt Bernstein Sycamore (a.k.a. Mattilda) and Cheryl Chase (now Bo Laurent).
I gave away other books of essays, but can't remember all the titles. I think one was GenderQueer: Voices from Beyond the Sexual Binary. That went to the library where I was working, as that librarian wanted to order it.
Looking back, I did my fair share of reading on these topics.
