thinking about e-readers

The big chain bookstores have them on sale lately, so I've been seeing those ads, too.  Here's what Jordan said so far, which particularly got me thinking about it: http://jordan-c-price.livejournal.com/135771.html  I'll have to borrow someone's Kindle sometime, and see what it's like.  I've heard from several people that they love their Kindles.  I just don't think they're doing the same kinds of things with the Kindles as I wanted to be able to do with an e-reader.  The folks I've talked to in real life are just reading for pleasure.  They don't feel the need I do to be able to transfer files to different devices.

I've seen ads lately for the Nook Color, which was selling like crazy at the Barnes & Noble near me in December, and for the Kobo readers.  The Nook Color really tempted me when I saw it, though I refrained from getting it at the time.  I didn't want DRM.  The Kindle has DRM of its own, too.  I still need to figure out more of what that means, but I do believe that it wouldn't let me transfer files from device to device as easily as I can with the files I have.

Will add more thoughts later...
