Paul Neyron rose 2

Monday so far

I went to bed around 12:30 a.m., but couldn't sleep.  I tried again at 1:30 a.m., and got to sleep not too long afterwards.  I got up at 10:00 a.m., when my alarm went off, so that wasn't bad.

Josh Lanyon's novella "Snowball in Hell" is on sale for 99 cents today through April 19th.  I've posted about the book many times before.  It's way up there among my favorites.  I have the version in PDF that I got from Aspen Mountain Press when they were still in business, a copy from Kobo of the Carina Press e-pub version, and a copy I got directly from Carina.  Not to mention the copies I have in print, from the Partners in Crime series and from the collected novellas.  So I don't need another copy, but I'm posting about it on Tumblr.  Jax already posted about it on the "Free and On Sale Books" thread on the Goodreads Backlot "Gay Books" forum.

I sent asks to various people on Tumblr to let them know I am offering books as gifts.  I asked Jamie to signal boost my post.  I'll post again when "Dangerous Ground" is free, on April 12 and 13.

I am supposed to meet P. and Z. at 2:00 p.m., but the grocery store isn't far away.

Later: I went windowshopping at Staples.  There are still laptops on clearance.  I went to the grocery store.  P. and Z. were just coming out the door as I pulled up.  They gave me a bouquet of carnations.  We went to a restaurant in [semi-local town].  Z. had a get-one-dinner, get-another-free coupon.  P. and Z. insisted that my dinner was their treat.  I had a half-rack of ribs and cinnamon apples.  It was only a couple of dollars more than the burgers there.

I took Z. home to [town that's further away].  P. and I stopped at a Goodwill on the way back home.  P. looked around there.  I got a CD that had the highlights of "Porgy and Bess," but it turned out it was just the instrumental version, not singing.  We went to a dollar store.  P. got a couple of things there.  I got a 'Stella d'Oro' daylily bulb, a packet of cornflower seeds, and an Easter card for S.M.

I dropped P. off.  I don't have any other plans.  I talked to J. yesterday.  S.M. will probably call.

It's Ms. F.'s birthday on Thursday.  P. and I might go down there that day.

J.-PA told me that Preciousmellow was going to post the bonus chapter of the Lovesong 'Verse tonight or tomorrow.  I saw Preciousmellow's Tumblr post about it.  I forget what her Tumblr name is, but I'm following her.  I know it when I see it.

Black-john-lennon reblogged a post from blackproverbs about AAVE.  I post about AAVE probably once a month or so on here, at least once every couple of months.  I couldn't find the posts, because I don't tag them in any specific way.  If anything, they're under "rambling," but a lot of my posts are.  I was wondering if I'd talked to P. about AAVE.  Ms. F. speaks it around me, and Z. was speaking it.  I think P. may be self-conscious about it.  She must have noticed that I fall into speaking AAVE if everybody around me is speaking it.  And I get called on it, like a girl someplace I worked saying "Listen to that accent you got going."  I later learned that it was a dialect, not an accent, but it is my second dialect, after Standard American English.

I rambled on on Tumblr about linguistic studies of AAVE, and my own experience of learning it.  I had learned it long before I read linguistics books about it.
