Tuesday so far -- movie

I turned off the computer between midnight and 1:00 a.m. because we were having a huge thunderstorm.  I was sleepy and lay down.  I suppose I went to sleep after the thunderstorm stopped.  I woke up at 7:30 a.m. for no apparent reason and couldn't get back to sleep.

I finished up the editing job from yesterday.

I went to the grocery store.

I debated with Mom about when we would leave for Baltimore.  I packed.

I went to see the 2:30 p.m. showing of the movie "Girl Most Likely."  There weren't that many people at that hour.  It was kind of a wacky movie.  I'm not sure if I've been to Ocean City, New Jersey.  I'm pretty sure I've been to Ocean City, Maryland at least briefly at some point.  I've been to Point Pleasant Beach in New Jersey a number of times, and that has a boardwalk.  I've been to Atlantic City.  That was for Grandma S.'s eightieth birthday, so we didn't get wild.  Aunt A. and I looked around at the casinos, and Aunt A. played the slot machines for $10 worth.  She wasn't going to spend more money than that.  It was a nice day in early October, so Mom stayed on the beach.  There are some pretty nice beaches there.

"Girl Most Likely" is apparently getting quite a mix of reviews, according to what GleekTO is posting on Tumblr.  One reviewer said that Darren Criss could "sing like an angel and dance like a stripper" but that that wasn't fully utilized in the movie.  The Backstreet Boys cover performance didn't have any suggestive dancing.  I think DC's voice was utilized well enough.  I loved the eyeliner look.  The character he played, Lee, was extremely different from Blaine, but I thought Lee was very convincing in his own way.  The character was likeable.  Although the stage performance didn't have any suggestiveness, Lee was shirtless a couple of times in the movie.  I'd already seen .gifs of that.

I liked Imogene's brother Ralph.  Imogene wasn't especially likeable, but I don't think she was supposed to be.  Lee was definitely the eye candy character.  I did not mind that.  I'm sure there are millions of teenaged girls who would agree with me.  It was worth seeing.

Mom and Dad and I debated more about driving to Baltimore.  I said that I'd start down there around 6:30 or 7:00 p.m. and that whoever wanted to go with me could go.  Dad wanted to go there and back in a day on Wednesday.  Mom had already packed this afternoon, and was torn.  I'll probably end up going by myself tonight.  That's fine.  I know how to get there.

Later: I drove to Baltimore with Mom as the passenger.  I'll do a separate post about that.

Tuesday travel

Mom and I left for Baltimore around 6:45 p.m.  I started out by taking back roads.  Mom hasn't driven in six weeks, since her second cataract surgery.  However, she saw well enough to see a deer in the road before I did.  It was just standing there in the middle of the lane while it was daylight.  I decided to get on the highways and take the highways after that.  We took Route 95 most of the way down.  When we got to J. and K.'s neighborhood, it was just dark and there were small children running back and forth in the streets.  That was rather nerve-wracking, too.

I texted with A.  I'd e-mailed Uly about Tamara Allen talking about him, and he thought it was cool.

Mom and K. watched an Orioles game on TV.  J. said that he could find a video that we could watch.  We went down to the basement, otherwise known as J.'s man-cave.  He had a bunch of superhero movies.  We ended up watching the first episode of a short-lived TV series, Birds of Prey.  It was based on DC comics.  It had Oracle (formerly Batgirl), the Huntress and a clairvoyant girl whose code name I forget.  I will ask J. tomorrow morning.  It probably was based on an actual comic book series.  I'd heard of Oracle.  J. kept saying how cheesy the show was.  I thought there was a fair amount of Ho Yay between Oracle and the Huntress, but Oracle was the Huntress' guardian when the Huntress was younger, so I guess I was imagining lesbian subtext.  I'm sure there's been femme slash written about them somewhere.

I don't think I'll do too much else this evening.  I brought my Nook with me.  Tomorrow should be pretty quiet, at least until Dad gets here.
