AWZ Wednesday

And there was payoff with a couple of the storylines.  Poor little Frank -- Florian made her cry.  (Added: Then he said, "Dude, you really are so gay.")  Next scene with Flo had him sitting in No. 7 with his hockey-playing pal Andy (in the credits as "Ice hockey player Andy").  Flo was saying nasty slurs about gays.  Roman and Deniz walked in and heard all of it.  Roman was Not Pleased.  I can't wait to see the translation of what he said, but Flo clearly got a rebuke.

(Added: Florian was "awesomely school[ed]."  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GubJaYusyM  Lisabea's Secret Gay Boyfriend rocked it.  Go Roman!)

Frank was curled up in bed crying while the rest of the hockey team practiced.  Ingo had split them into teams, and Florian's team played Deniz' team.  Flo was cursing after the practice, and yelling at his teammates.  Deniz and his team came in happy.  Deniz said something to Florian with one of those slur words in it, perhaps, "You lost to one" or something along those lines.  (Added: "How does it feel to lose to a fag, huh?")  Deniz forgave quickly, but he didn't forget.  Ingo bawled Florian out for not playing as a team player, or some such.

Later, Flo came to the penthouse.  He seemed to be sort-of apologizing to Frank.  "You're gay.  I overreacted.  My brother's gay, and he explained (?) (made clear?) to me..."  There was definitely "My brother's gay" in there.  ("My brother's gay, and I'm fine with that.")  The gist seemed to be that Florian was now okay with Frank being gay.  Even getting the two words in ten that I do, it sounded pretty lame.  (It was so, so lame.)  Frank thought so too.  (Translations from EKP)

Frank remembered all the hurtful things Florian had said to her last episode, and repeated them back to him.  Then she told him to get out.

Next scene with them was a little soft-focus/cloudy around the edges.  We know what that means.  Florian tried to talk Frank down while Frank was kicking him out.  Then Flo put his hand on Frank's cheek.  I was reminded of Christian's first dream about Olli, after Olli had kissed him.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzmE6c0zEWE&p=8D905B1FE36D923C  Olli had explained to the oblivious Christian that he kissed him because he had a crush on him.  Christian dreamed that he started kissing Olli back, and liking it, and woke up looking...startled.  He has such an expressive face.

Florian started kissing a responsive Frank, and they both seemed to be liking it a lot.  I couldn't see Frank as anything but a girl in the scene, so it lost the effect it might have had that way.  In the Chrolli story and that Chrolli dream scene, the viewers and Christian were all well aware that Olli was a man.

Flo woke up and sat bolt upright, looking extremely startled.  He looked around, scrubbed at his face with his hands a little, and started to shift his position.  Then, this being AWZ and not VL, he looked under the blanket on his lap and put his hand down there.  I'm not sure if they were establishing that he was hard, or that he'd had a wet dream.  Either way, he flopped back down in despair, or at least confusion.

Florian's "homoerotic" dream was something of a payoff at this point in the storyline.  Much more important to me was having adults finally hearing the kinds of things Florian and his buddies had been saying, and letting him know what they thought of it.  Roman is effectively acting as Florian's parent, and is gay and proud.  "Onkel Deniz" has been nothing but kind to Flo.  The most basic thing for me, though, was having someone tell Florian that that language and attitude was not okay.  That the adults were who they were gave that much more of an addition to the emotional impact, and probably meant more to Flo coming from them.

Roman was also around here and there in the Katja-doping plot.  Isabelle made sure that Katja would be suspended, then called the press about Katja, when Ben was going to keep it quiet.  Katja came home after Ben suspended her, and got a Bergmann sisters group hug.  That would definitely cheer me up.  Max came over, and told Katja that she'd have to come for a press conference, since it was public knowledge now.  He wasn't as mean as he can be.  Max sometimes has totally ferocious body language and tone of voice, and he didn't seem that terribly angry at Katja herself.

At the end of Tuesday's episode, the Steinkamps had gathered some employees, and told them that Jenny was dead.  Deniz was there for Roman, who is clearly still grieving.  Simone looked out the office window, and saw Axel unroll a huge banner in the Eishalle, with a picture of Jenny and the words "Jenny Steinkamp Memorial Cup."  I think Simone, Richard, and Max are all regretting that they didn't poison Axel more when they had the chance.  They've got to do something about him.  When they're united about getting someone, that person is usually in serious trouble.

Axel continued being evil and obnoxious about getting as much profit and personal happiness out of Jenny's death as he could all during this episode, too.  I am really hating Axel, and rooting for someone to kill him off, at this point.  It's one thing to be a generally ineffectual comedy villain, but quite another to take pleasure in a family's grief.  I have to say that the actor who plays Axel is very good.  There's just nothing humanizing about the character at all now.

Axel also put a big placard (Plakat?) of Jenny -- I take it to mean billboard or poster, depending on the context -- on the front of the Center.  Richard shoved Axel around a bit, and told the workmen to take down the billboard, but Axel won that round.  Simone said there would be no such thing as a Jenny Steinkamp Memorial Cup, and that she didn't want the NR/W held either(?) or not if it was held as a memorial (?)  She's quickly snapping back to her indomitable self.

Marian saw the billboard, too, swerving the clown car to a stop when he saw it, and Deniz apologized, telling him that he and Roman had wanted to let him know about it before he saw it.  Marian started unloading boxes out of the bed(?) (back?) of the clown car, and Roman and Deniz joined in.  I don't know what happened to Marian's station wagon.

It was a busy couple of days for Roman.  He's in just about all of the plots, or related to people who are.  He's not the main character of the plots, but he's got some strong supporting roles to play.  Deniz is in the hockey plots, more peripherally than Roman in the plots centered around the Center, and supporting Marian and the reopening of No. 7.

So I'll see how things progress now with the Frank and Flo plot.  Today's episode ended with Katja saying that she had tested positive for drugs, but hadn't taken any.  Perhaps Claudia will figure out that Isabelle was spiking Katja's water with steroids.  Claudia isn't someone you want as an enemy, either.
