Saturday real life

I took a sponge bath and had brunch, then we were off to the shoemakers to get the loose sole on my sneaker fixed, and stretch out the shoes that had rubbed my left toes raw.  He glued the sneaker sole right away, which makes it much less scary to hop backwards onto a step.  I was very happy that had been repaired.

I wanted to stop at Party City next, and get glowsticks.  I'd turned the family room light off last night, and hadn't been able to get it back on at the other switch, or at the original switch until I did it by hand, rather than flipping it with the edge of the lapdesk.  I used one of the bigger glowsticks (on a lanyard) that I still had.  It was a really nice blue.  At least that way I could see to get into the bathroom.  I now know how to put on the walking boot, with all its straps, in very low light and when I'm a little groggy.  However, nothing doing for going to Party City -- Dad was anxious to get home and watch the Phillies game, which started at 4:00 p.m.  He stopped at Pep Boys for a dome light for the car, then we stopped at a grocery store.

I had said to let me out at the curb cut-out by the store, but Dad didn't do that.  He parked in a handicapped parking space that was really relatively far from the grocery store.  Mom had told him to park in the shade, and that was the handicapped space in the shade, the furthest one away.  He didn't get out my wheelchair as he did at the shoemakers, but just got out my walker.  It was a long walk.

Fortunately, the store had scooters available, and I got in one by the store entrance.  It wasn't as fun as the one at Longwood Gardens, because I could only get it to move or stop, so the drive ended up being very jerky.  It was pretty good for backing up, though.  No warning beeps, so Mom and Dad had to jump to get their toes out of the way a couple of times when I backed up.  I'd told them that I was backing up.  It wasn't like they had no warning at all.  We got rye bread, which Mom wanted, and watermelon, which I wanted.  Everybody else likes watermelon, too.  The cashier at the register I went to said I could drive the scooter out to the car, and she'd drive it back, so she went out with us.  That made the trip back a whole lot easier.

When we got home, I had watermelon and tea.  I tried the last kind of flowering tea that was in the box Jordan had sent as a get well basket.  That one was Jasmine Pearls.  It's these tiny balls of tea that open up into long strands.  I steeped it for quite a while.  I like my tea strong.  It was very good.  I'll get more of it next time I go shopping online.  That box, with nine different kinds of tea and a glass teapot for watching the tea flowers bloom, kept me entertained for weeks.

I still have the teapot, and more flowering tea.  I think there's only one kind they make that I haven't tried yet, and I've got boxes of that.  I'd thought I'd ordered one box of Sunset Oolong tea, with six tea flowers in a box.  I got six boxes with six tea flowers in each box.  I checked my bank statement, and they'd charged what I thought was the price for one box for it all.  I think some friends and relatives may be getting a box of Sunset Oolong tea as a present.  It depends how much I like it.  Generally I like oolong tea, but it would take me quite a while to drink that much, especially as you can steep each tea flower twice or three times.

Tonight is the online Chrolli fans meeting: -- it's being called the Chrolli book club, as the plan is that we'll discuss the episodes that week and the pairing.  I've been looking forward to it through this week.  I'm sure I'll be up for several hours, though between eating watermelon and drinking green tea, I'll be away from the keyboard every few minutes.  Not to worry, though.  I'll hop back as quickly as I can.
