Later: Mom and I went out and about in the morning, including to the library, where I had several books about houseplants on hold, and to the dollar store. I got an anniversary card for Mom and Dad at the dollar store, and food and such.
When we got home, I had a quick lunch, and then went to my appointment.
I went straight home from that, and changed to old clothes to do yard work in. I wanted to plant a lot of bulbs, but I only ended up planting a few. I sorted through the big ceramic container that I had the 'Tete-a-Tete' miniature daffodil bulbs in to feel which ones were still good. I had my new pair of nitrile gloves on, which worked really well for digging and dealing with dirt in general. I swept soil and perlite and such off the porch, and then off from around the spot on the driveway where I had a chair set up to pot up the 'Grand Soleil d'Or' tazettas and manage other potted plants. Something had dug into one of the pots of irises I'd planted yesterday, but didn't dig the iris up completely. When I was done rearranging the soil, I put a curl of hardware cloth over the irises I potted up yesterday.
I was steadily moving the 'Tete-a-Tete daffodils from one container to another as I felt them for firmness and looked at them to see if their roots were starting to grow, and/or if they had a little green sprout on top. I tossed the few that had totally rotted out to one side, and then some that I was dubious about to the other side. I ended up needing to rake some leaves to get the dead and the dubious sorted out again, because the bulbs I was tossing to the driveway landed near the "crocus garden" that now has irises, the nice, plump miniature daffodil bulbs that I replanted quickly after digging the clumps up, and what should be several colors of grape hyacinth at this point planted in them.
After raking and cleanup of that area, I finally planted a few daffodils. I planted the 'Carlton' bulbs that I left by the former rose garden in the spots that I wanted them, and one bulb of the 'Van Sion" (a.k.a. Telemonius Plenus) daffodil. It wasn't an unproductive yard work day for me, especially as Dad counts it, but I would have liked to have gotten more flower bulbs planted today.
