I have an appointment, and there are things I want at the grocery store and Walmart.
Mom and I went to the grocery store. I made it to my appointment in good time. Afterwards Mom and I went to the library and the dollar store. It was a productive day that way.
It looked like it was going to rain any minute in the morning and early afternoon. It warmed up in the afternoon. I got a lot of weeding done, and planted the carnation and wallflower I had gotten a few weeks ago. I also managed to plant the abutilon that I'd gotten on Saturday, so that wasn't bad. I've got few more things to plant, but I've got a good amount of pots. There's a lot more room around the azalea and Judd viburnum, too, since I weeded a lot of "catchgrass bedstraw" a.k.a. "scratchgrass" (according to Weeds of the Northeast) out of that area. It looks a lot like sweet woodruff, enough to confuse Dad, but it has longer stems, leaves that are more rounded at the tip, and some kind of prickliness and stickiness when touched. It comes out of the ground pretty easily, though. Maybe I'll plant the wintergreen by the porch and the azalea. The azalea is magnificent this year.
I also cut some dead canes off my Old Garden Roses. I had thought most of the Jacobite rose was dead, from the color of the canes, but all of it leafed out. The 'Kazanlik' rose did have a lot of dead canes, but it had some low growth that was still alive. It should bloom again in a couple of years. I noticed buds on 'Mme. Zoetmans.' I'll have to spray Deer-Off on my roses.
