Thursday

I stayed up late watching CNN.  I got up around 9:30 a.m.

I worked.  I got out a little before 3:00 p.m. today.  I'd done a good amount of generally cleaning the apartment.

It wasn't bad out, though not as nice as it was Tuesday.  I managed to finally plant several hardy plants that had been in pots over the summer.  The 'Blue Staccato' iris had lost all its leaves.  I think that's because the rectangular pot it was in didn't have much drainage, and it's been raining all summer and most of the fall so far.  I dug it up.  The roots were still alive, as I'd figured.  I planted that in the ground in front of the front porch.  I had originally wanted to plant all of the irises in the ground.  I just couldn't think of good places.

I planted the oregano where the iris had been.  The oregano had been in a little pot, and was pot-bound.  I finally planted the sweet flag, in front of the porch also, but farther from the door, near the side where I'd planted the sweet briar rose too close.  I think I'd planted hyacinths there, because I dug up a bulb, but I replanted that right away.

I planted the sage on one side of another of those rectangular pots.  I don't know what had been there.  I'd put an iris in the middle of that pot, and the basil on the other side.  The basil will be gone soon.  There's a bit of portulaca near it that I thought about digging up and bringing in.

I planted a small wild bleeding heart plant that I'd gotten from Jenkins Arboretum between the two hardy cyclamens.  The cyclamens have been blooming for a few weeks now.  I knocked off a couple of flowers weeding around them, but I put them in little vases inside.  The hardy cyclamen flowers are about violet-sized, and pink.
